The History of The American Motorcyclist Association

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) will help provide guidance and advice for motorcycle rallies and events, and allows AMA members to vote on the matters of the AMA. The AMA mission states, "to protect and promote the interests of motorcyclists while serving the needs of its members."

The American Motorcyclist Association is the largest motorcycle organization across the globe. The AMA helps oversee 4,000 amateur and 80 professional events across the globe each and every year. In Columbus, Ohio the AMA helps to maintain the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. This organization is also governing body with the U.S. motorcycle sport.

In 1994 the AMA was formed to help respond to the growth of motorcycle racing in the United States. March 7, 2008, the American Motorcyclist Association was sold to Jim France and Roger Edsmondson who headed the Daytona Motor sports group (DMG). This change held DMG responsible for the AMA Motocross Series, the AMA Flat Track Series, the AMA Supermoto Series, the AMA Hill climb Series, and the ATV Pro Racing event. The new AMA Super sport Championship is only open for rider between the age of 16-21 and only allows stock motorcycle's that run a 600cc.

The American Motorcyclist Magazine is currently published by the AMA. Each month over 160,000 copies are published and sold around the United States and other markets across the globe. The AMA is plentiful with reliably current board member who help keep matters on the up and up.

The current chairman of the American Motorcyclist Association is Stan Simpson who's term expires February 2012. Each board member's term expires just a short while after it begins in order to keep the democracy in the American Motorcyclist Association open, lively, and full of new ideas. The AMA is a needed organization that will help keep motorcyclist's rights easily representable and attainable.
